ABOUT CGMA FLP

The CGMA® Finance Leadership Program (FLP) is the new digital-first route to the globally recognized CIMA® Professional Qualification. It was created by the world’s two largest and influential accounting and finance professional body, CIMA and AICPA to help finance professionals develop mastery of critical skills as they work to earn the CGMA designation. The foundation of the program is the CGMA Competency Framework, which features 45 competency areas and outlines the essential business skills every company needs, based on extensive feedback from employers around the world.

The CGMA Finance Leadership Program is an online learning program, similar in scope and rigor to a master’s degree. The FLP is comprehensive, encompassing both the technical finance and accounting skills as well as the business, people and leadership skills you need to be an effective business leader. It is designed specifically for working professionals, using real-world scenarios to help you learn new frameworks and tools you can apply immediately, while building a solid foundation of business acumen that will serve you throughout your careers.

The FLP is extremely flexible, with different entry points to set you on the most efficient path to master critical skills and earn the CGMA designation. The program builds on your unique knowledge and experience, so you can start the program at the entry point that is right for you, and then gain the complementary skills that you need to be a successful, well-rounded, business partner.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Academic Credential / Work Experience:

To enrol in CGMA Finance Leadership Program, candidates must fulfil one of the following criteria:

  • • Diploma in Accounting
  • • Degree Majoring in Accounting/ Finance/ Business
  • • 2 years of relevant work experience in Finance / Accounting (CV assessment by CIMA)

PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT (PER)

To qualify for the CGMA designation, once you complete the Strategic level, your last step before earning the CGMA designation and becoming a CIMA member is to demonstrate that you have a minimum of three years’ (36 months’) relevant work experience across the four knowledge areas as defined by the CGMA Competency Framework. Your experience is assessed through the Practical Experience Requirements (PER) application.

Note: The minimum of three years’ experience can be accumulated before, during and after your studies.

COURSE STRUCTURE

All your learning, assessment and Case Study exam preparation takes place within the FLP platform. This includes:

The CGMA Finance Leadership Program is divided into three levels, each building on the previous one.

The Operational level focuses on short-term decision-making. You’ll build your core knowledge of finance, accounting, and reporting, studying topics like:

Exam: Operational Case Study Exam

Learning and assessment happen simultaneously via the FLP platform. Your knowledge is assessed at the end of each topic within the digital platform throughout your learning journey.

Multiple-choice questions and open-text Business Simulation Assignments are incorporated into online learning materials. You may skip the learning you already know via pre-assessments.

All learning competencies must be complete 2 weeks before the start of the exam window.

A unique business situation is presented in each exam window, and students are given background information, or pre-seen material, seven weeks before the exam to prepare.

The Case Study exam mirrors a real business environment. It simulates what management accountants do in the workplace through the use of a fictionalised organization based on a real business or industry.

You will apply technical, business, people and leadership skills to solve the kind of problems a high-level management accountant might face in a real-world business situation.

You’ll be tested on a variety of skills in the exam, including research and analysis, how to present information and communication skills.

Once you’ve earned your CGMA designation, there’s an annual fee of GBP 297 to maintain it. As well as giving you the right to continue using the designatory letters, the fee also gives you access to exclusive learning and conferences, networking opportunities and discounts.
